What's Good: The Manager Jitender did his best to accomodate my wishes. I only have one grievance to make he did loose his cool on the journey when the Ticket Inspector demanded he pay the diff (Read More)erence of fare as I was able to get on the Himalayan Toy Train from Kalka to Shimla due to 5 cancellations hence I did not give him a 5Star Rating. All in all, he was always polite and seemed to be knowledgeable in all aspects of Tourism.
What's Not Good: Jitender wasn't always available to follow through with Pick Ups and Drop Offs as he had to depend on Drivers and I had to keep reminding him. Again, it was not his fault as communication is the key answer to a smooth transition in Travel.

What's Not Good: The food options in both breakfast and dinner were limited. We were expecting more variety. The taste of the food was not up to our expectations, especially for someone from Mumbai who prefers spicier flavors. It felt a bit bland.

What's Good: I booked my Anniversary Trip to Shimla and Manali with Dreamland yours and travels. It was our first time visiting himachal and so we wanted someone to preplan it for us so that we (Read More) can just relax and worry about nothing. I came in contact with Kiran and from day 1 till the day I was back home she was in continuous contact, checking on us, checking with the driver about our well being and our location updates. The hotels she arranged for us were top notch. To our suprise, Kiran upgraded us into super delux hotel with great view for our manali stay. That was so sweet of her. Our driver - Manoj ji was very very very sweet and cooperative. I was unwell for the first 3 days of the trip and he made sure to get me meds and food, frequent bathroom stops and he was our guide for the tour too. Would really recommend Dreamland tours and travels for anyone who wants to have a hassle free and relaxing trip to Himachal.
About Shimla Tourism: Shimla, alternatively known as Simla, is the capital of Himachal Pradesh and a major tourist destination in India that boasts of a colonial past. The former summer capital for British India, this hill station attracts tourists because of its pleasant weather (especially from March to June), greenery, colonial infrastructure, adventure sports and more. Holidify’s numerous Shimla tour packages are budget-friendly and ideal for travelling with friends or family.

You mustn’t miss out on the Green Valley that falls en route to Kufri and features massive peaks covered with deodar and pine forests. Visit the Shimla Reserve Forest Sanctuary that is home to leopards, monkeys, jackals etc. There is no shortage of colonial buildings for you to visit, like Visceral Lodge built in Scottish Baronial style or the Rothney Castle known for its beautiful surroundings and for being the home of A.O Hume, the founder of the Indian National Congress. Shimla travel packages include sites like the Tara Devi Temple, Kali Bari Temple, Shimla Christ Church and Gurudwara Sahib. No trip to Shimla can be complete without shopping on Mall Road or The Ridge, where you’d find some handicrafts, woollens, jewellery etc. or without eating at the different cafes like Wake & Bake, Cafe Hide Out and Cafe Sol.

Partake in the different adventure activities on your trip to Shimla, like ice skating at the famous Shimla Ice Skating Rink, skiing in the snow-covered forests of Narkanda or embarking on the Jakhoo Trek, Churdhar Trek, Tara Devi Trek etc. For a remarkable trip, Shimla tour packages also include destinations like Manali, Dalhousie and Kasauli.

Shimla Heritage Walk

Shimla is a heritage city and had been the British's favourite destination to spend the summer. And so, you can find a lot of British touch to everything here; from the buildings to the overall construction of the city, to even the food. The most popular heritage building here being the Viceregal Lodge, also known as the Rashtrapati Niwas was the residence of the Viceroy of India, during the British rule. The Shimla Heritage Museum is also an attraction for tourists looking for all historical insight into the city and the state of Himachal in general. The Heritage Walk will make you see the British architecture that had a strong Scottish influence, definitely visible at the Church on the Mall Road. Also, a walk through the ridge will make you see the beauty of the hills!

Shimla’s Religious Trail

Shimla is home to many temples and holy shrines. The most famous is the Jakhu temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman, located on the top of the hill by the same name. The statue overlooks the Mall Road and can be seen from many parts of the city. A little farther from the city of Shimla, right on the outskirts is the Tara Devi temple. Legend has it that Goddess Tara Devi watches over the whole town and has a protective gaze, with the statement location of the temple on top of a hill.

Shimla also happens to have its own Kali Bari! With the Kali Bari being older than 150 years, this abode of Goddess Kali is a popular tourist attraction and a spiritual hub both for locals and travellers. The oldest temple in the city remains the Laxminarayan Temple. It is dedicated to Maa Laxmi, the Goddess of wealth and is flocked by lakhs of people every year.

Places to Visit in Shimla

Visceral Lodge: It is a perfect place for history lovers. Built in 1888, this six story building constructed in Scottish Baronial style once served as the residence of Lord Dufferin, the British Viceroy of India.

Jakhoo Temple: The Jakhu Temple is an ancient site dedicated to the Hindu god - Hanuman. It has the world's largest Hanuman statue, which is visible from most parts of Shimla. It is believed that Lord Hanuman stopped at this spot to take some rest before resuming his search for the Sanjeevani Booti to revive Lord Lakshman.

Mall Road: Shopping in Shimla revolves around the heart of the town- The Mall Road. One can shop for local handicrafts, shawls, woolens, exquisite jewelry etc. here. The stores that are located on the Mall Road are famous for their woollen clothes and exclusively handcrafted works, apart from the usual books and jewellery.

Christ Church: Located at the Mall Road itself, this church is the second oldest church in North India. The interiors and the neo-gothic architecture are very beautiful and appealing. At night, the church literally glows when it is lighted up, while in winters, it dons the look of a magnificent castle.

The Ridge: The Ridge is the most photographed wide-open street located on the side of Shimla Mall Road. The Ridge has everything, from shops selling some exclusive artefacts to the spectacular view of the snow-capped mountain ranges. It is famous for a lot of things, but best known for shopping and for being the social hub of the city.

Scandal Point: The Scandal Point is located on the Mall Road. It owes its interesting name to the fact that the King of Patiala abducted the daughter of the Viceroy, because he fell in love with her, from this very place. This point is a mountain lover's haven because it enjoys a picturesque and unobstructed view of gigantic mountains covered in a blanket of dense fir and spruce.

Green Valley: The Green Valley is a beautiful and breathtaking mountain range that falls on the way to Kufri from Shimla. The Green Valley is surrounded by verdant hills on all sides covered with thick pine and deodar forests. It is not uncommon to sight some Yaks wandering and grazing around in the valley.

Himachal State Museum: The Himachal State Museum is located on the Mall Road and has unique collectibles like ancient coins, paintings and other handicraft items, the aesthetics of which are influenced by the Pahari form of art.

Kalibari Temple: Kalibari Temple is an ancient place of worship dedicated to Goddess Kali. The shrine houses a captivating idol of Goddess Kali beautifully adorned with jewellery and colourful flowers.

Kufri: Kufri, located at a distance of 20km from the main city of Shimla, is a popular tourist destination known for its skii slopes, Kufri Zoo and as starting point of treks. Mahasu Peak and Fagu Valley are the main attractions in Kufri that are accessible via pony ride.

Chail: Chail is a quiet hill station close (44km) to Shimla, known for the world's highest cricket ground and a heritage hotel, Chail Palace. Chail also offers various trekking and camping options for adventure enthusiasts. Tourists typically cover Shimla, Kufri and Chail in the same trip and many  Shimla packages also offer the same.

Manali: One of the most popular hill stations in Himachal, Manali offers the most magnificent views of the Pir Panjal and the Dhauladhar ranges covered with snow for most parts of the year. Manali is often visited along with Shimla and Manali Shimla packages often cover tourist attractions like Hadimba Temple, Solang Valley, Rohtang Pass, Manikaran, Atal Tunnel and many more such places.

Things to Do in Shimla

Skii in Kufri: Kufri, the winter sports capital of Shimla is a skier's paradise. It is among the oldest places in India to be associated with Skiing. The best time to roll into the snow of Kufri is from mid- December to early February.

Ride the Kalka Shimla Toy Train: The Kalka to Shimla route is best travelled by way of the toy train that runs on a narrow-gauge track and is known for its dramatic views of the hills and surrounding villages. The historic Kalka Shimla Toy train is part of the UNESCO World Heritage List and takes individuals on a 5 and a half hours ride amongst vast green hills and deodar and pine forests.

Horse Riding: Horse riding is a popular and much loved activity in both Shimla and Kufri. In Shimla, Horse Riding Options are generally available at the Ridge, while in Kufri one can ride through apple orchards and all the way to the Kufri Zoo.
