(Written on 25 Mar, 2025)

What's Good: The Manager Jitender did his best to accomodate my wishes. I only have one grievance to make he did loose his cool on the journey when the Ticket Inspector demanded he pay the diff (Read More)erence of fare as I was able to get on the Himalayan Toy Train from Kalka to Shimla due to 5 cancellations hence I did not give him a 5Star Rating. All in all, he was always polite and seemed to be knowledgeable in all aspects of Tourism.
What's Not Good: Jitender wasn't always available to follow through with Pick Ups and Drop Offs as he had to depend on Drivers and I had to keep reminding him. Again, it was not his fault as communication is the key answer to a smooth transition in Travel.

About Shimla Tourism: Shimla, alternatively known as Simla, is the capital of Himachal Pradesh and a major tourist destination in India that boasts of a colonial past. The former summer capital for British India, this hill station attracts tourists because of its pleasant weather (especially from March to June), greenery, colonial infrastructure, adventure sports and more. Holidify’s numerous Shimla tour packages are budget-friendly and ideal for travelling with friends or family.

You mustn’t miss out on the Green Valley that falls en route to Kufri and features massive peaks covered with deodar and pine forests. Visit the Shimla Reserve Forest Sanctuary that is home to leopards, monkeys, jackals etc. There is no shortage of colonial buildings for you to visit, like Visceral Lodge built in Scottish Baronial style or the Rothney Castle known for its beautiful surroundings and for being the home of A.O Hume, the founder of the Indian National Congress. Shimla travel packages include sites like the Tara Devi Temple, Kali Bari Temple, Shimla Christ Church and Gurudwara Sahib. No trip to Shimla can be complete without shopping on Mall Road or The Ridge, where you’d find some handicrafts, woollens, jewellery etc. or without eating at the different cafes like Wake & Bake, Cafe Hide Out and Cafe Sol.

Partake in the different adventure activities on your trip to Shimla, like ice skating at the famous Shimla Ice Skating Rink, skiing in the snow-covered forests of Narkanda or embarking on the Jakhoo Trek, Churdhar Trek, Tara Devi Trek etc. For a remarkable trip, Shimla tour packages also include destinations like Manali, Dalhousie and Kasauli.

Shimla Heritage Walk

Shimla is a heritage city and had been the British's favourite destination to spend the summer. And so, you can find a lot of British touch to everything here; from the buildings to the overall construction of the city, to even the food. The most popular heritage building here being the Viceregal Lodge, also known as the Rashtrapati Niwas was the residence of the Viceroy of India, during the British rule. The Shimla Heritage Museum is also an attraction for tourists looking for all historical insight into the city and the state of Himachal in general. The Heritage Walk will make you see the British architecture that had a strong Scottish influence, definitely visible at the Church on the Mall Road. Also, a walk through the ridge will make you see the beauty of the hills!

Shimla’s Religious Trail

Shimla is home to many temples and holy shrines. The most famous is the Jakhu temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman, located on the top of the hill by the same name. The statue overlooks the Mall Road and can be seen from many parts of the city. A little farther from the city of Shimla, right on the outskirts is the Tara Devi temple. Legend has it that Goddess Tara Devi watches over the whole town and has a protective gaze, with the statement location of the temple on top of a hill.

Shimla also happens to have its own Kali Bari! With the Kali Bari being older than 150 years, this abode of Goddess Kali is a popular tourist attraction and a spiritual hub both for locals and travellers. The oldest temple in the city remains the Laxminarayan Temple. It is dedicated to Maa Laxmi, the Goddess of wealth and is flocked by lakhs of people every year.

It owes its interesting name to the fact that the King of Patiala abducted the daughter of the Viceroy, because he fell in love with her, from this very place. This point is a mountain lover's haven because it enjoys a picturesque and unobstructed view of gigantic mountains covered in a blanket of dense fir and spruce.

Green Valley: The Green Valley is a beautiful and breathtaking mountain range that falls on the way to Kufri from Shimla. The Green Valley is surrounded by verdant hills on all sides covered with thick pine and deodar forests. It is not uncommon to sight some Yaks wandering and grazing around in the valley.
