Pemayangtse Monastery is a highly revered Buddhist Monastery situated at Pemayangtse, in the Pelling region of Sikkim. One of the oldest monasteries of the state, it stands tall on a hilltop overlooking the historical Rabdentse ruins, the former capital of the Kingdom of Sikkim. Pemayangtse translates to 'perfect, sublime lotus' and is said to represent one of the four networks of nerves (vessels) in the human body.

The Rumtek Monastery is one of the largest and most significant monasteries in Sikkim, perched on top of a hill 23 km from Gangtok. Originally called as the Dharma Chakra Centre, it belongs to the Kargyu sect of Buddhists who originated in Tibet in the 12th century. Also called the Yuksom Monastery, the Dubdi Monastery is a Buddhist monastery of the Nyingma sect of Tibetan Buddhism. Located in the Yuksom Valley, in the Geyzing subdivision of West Sikkim, it was established in the year 1701 and hence is one of the oldest monasteries of Sikkim. Sitting quaintly on a hilltop, around 1-hour walk from Yuksom, the Dubdi Monastery is also sometimes called as "Hermit's Cell".

Tashiding Monastery, situated in Western Sikkim, India, stands as one of the most sacred and revered monasteries in the region. Perched atop a hill between the Rathong chu and Rangeet River, it lies approximately 40 kilometers from Gyalshing and 19 kilometers southeast of Yuksam. The monastery hosts the annual festival of Bumchu, held on the 14th and 15th of the first month of the Tibetan lunar calendar, usually falling in February or March.

Located at the top of a ridge in the town of Pelling, Sikkim, Sangachoeling Monastery was established in the 17th century by Lama Gyalwa Lhatsun Chempo. The literal meaning of the word Sanga Choeling is ‘Idea of Guhya Mantra Teachings’ that relates to the faith of Buddhism. Also spelt as Sange Choeling Monastery, this is one of the oldest monasteries in Northeastern Sikkim. In order to reach this place, one has to walk for at least 40 minutes through the forest on a steep hill slope but the end result is absolutely worth it.

8. Tsuk La Khang Monastery

Situated in the complex of the Tsuklakhang Royal Palace, Tsuk La Khang Monastery is the palatial monastery of the former royal family of Sikkim. Built in the year 1898 AD under the rule of Thutob Namgyal who was the 9th King, Tsuk La Khang is the prime place of worship for the local Buddhists residing in the region. This beautiful two-storied structure with mural covered interiors also comprises of an extensive collection of scriptures, is decorated with altars and images of Lord Buddha, and tantric deities.
