Waterfalls in Georgia: Experience the Serenity

Located in the Samegrelo region, Martvili Canyon is a stunning natural wonder. The waterfalls, surrounded by lush greenery and turquoise waters, provide a breathtaking view. To reach Martvili Canyon, take a bus from Kutaisi to Martvili and then a short taxi ride to the canyon. you can take a boat ride through the canyon, giving you an up-close view of the cascading water and beautiful rock formations.

Shdugra Waterfall, one of the tallest waterfalls in Georgia, is situated in the Svaneti region, near the village of Mazeri. The waterfall is best accessed by hiking from Mazeri or Becho, a journey that offers spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. You can also combine the hike with horse rides that can be taken from Becho village.

Dashbashi Canyon, situated in the Kvemo Kartli region, features a series of beautiful waterfalls. The canyon is accessible by car from Tbilisi, followed by a hike along well-marked trails. At the end of this trail you can reach the crystal-clear water cascading over moss-covered rocks, creating a magical atmosphere. It makes a great spot for swimming and cliff jumping.

Birtvisi Waterfall is located within the Birtvisi Canyon, a popular hiking destination near Tbilisi. To reach the waterfall, visitors need to hike through rugged terrain, but the effort is rewarded with views of the cascading water against a backdrop of dramatic rock formations. The waterfall is part of a larger scenic landscape, including the ancient Birtvisi Fortress.

Gveleti Waterfall is located near the village of Gveleti. A short hike from the village brings you to these beautiful waterfalls at the both ends of a forked valley, surrounded by rocky cliffs and verdant flora. It is located just 7 kilometers from Stepantsminda. However, it is tough to find a public transport to reach Gveleti from Stepantsminda.

Located 5 km away from Martvili Municipality, Abasha Waterfall is a striking natural monument located at an altitude of 630 meters above sea level, forming a 30-meter-high cascade at the source of the Abasha River. Situated on massive limestone rocks from the Late Cretaceous period, this waterfall has two additional cascades to the right and a smaller one to the left. The area is characterized by dense forests, primarily composed of Late Cretaceous limestone.

Situated within the picturesque Makhuntseti village, just an hour away from Batumi, this waterfall is renowned for its breathtaking beauty and serene surroundings. A scenic hiking trail through the forests leads to the waterfall. Adventure activities like ziplining and white water rafting are also available at the waterfall. You can reach here either by taking a fixed route taxi or driving in a private vehicle.

Kinchkha Waterfall is in the Imereti region, near Khoni. The waterfall consists of three tiers, with the upper tier being the most impressive. The first two waterfalls, standing 20 meters and 70 meters high, are formed by the flow of a tributary of the Satsiskvilo River over limestone slopes. The third, approximately 35 meters high, is created after the tributary merges with the Satsiskvilo River. You can reach Kinchkha Waterfall via a 2.1-kilometer marked trail from the village of Kinchkha. It is a protected area and you need to have your id to get entry tickets.

Leghvtakhevi Waterfall is located in the heart of Tbilisi, in the historical district of Abanotubani. Easily accessible by foot, this urban waterfall is a unique attraction, blending nature with the cityscape. It is situated at the end of the Leghvtakhevi Canyon. You can enjoy the waterfall while exploring the nearby sulfur baths and historic landmarks.

Gurgeniani Waterfall is situated in the Lagodekhi National Park, near the village of Gurgeniani. The waterfall can be reached by a moderate hike through dense forests which starts from the Gurgeniani Information Center and follows a narrow path through the Ninoskhevi river. The journey is scenic, and the waterfall itself is a hidden gem, offering a quiet spot for relaxation and picnicking.

Zeda Tkhilnari Waterfall is located outside Batumi. The waterfall can be reached via private taxi from Batumi. The picturesque setting and the gentle flow of water make Zeda Tkhilnari Waterfall a charming spot for visitors. There are many stalls around the waterfall where you can buy souvenirs.

Gegskiy Waterfall, located in the Abkhazia region, is a spectacular natural attraction. The waterfall is accessible via road and a small hike. It offers a stunning view of water cascading down a steep cliff. The road to the waterfall is very bumpy and rugged so the jeep/taxi ride can be uncomfortable.

New Athos Waterfall is situated in the Abkhazia region, near the New Athos Monastery. The waterfall is easily accessible by foot and is a popular tourist attraction. The unique feature of this waterfall is its proximity to historical and cultural sites, making it a perfect blend of nature and heritage. There is a nearby dam which was used for hydroelectricity generation in past.

Kaghu Waterfall is one of the more accessible waterfalls in Georgia, making it an ideal destination for families and those seeking a leisurely adventure. Located near popular tourist spots like Martvilli and Balda Canyon, this waterfall is easy to reach with just a 20-minute walk from the Balda Monastery. Even in rainy weather, the short hike offers rewarding views of the cascading waters.

While Nokalakevi Spring is technically a sulfur spring rather than a traditional waterfall, the bubbling water flowing down the rocks creates the appearance of a small waterfall. This spring emerges from a high bank above the Terek River, forming stunning mineral travertine on the cliffside. The water here can be hot so caution should be taken.

Intsira Waterfall is located near Chkvaleri village in Svaneti, it requires a short trek along a dirt road followed by a forest path. The trail gets steep, so it's essential to dress appropriately for some scrambling. The stunning views of the waterfall and its serene surroundings make the effort worthwhile.
