Location is suboptimal at best. There is very little to do around the hotel, and very limited choice for food. The other side of Halong City has a bit more going on, and that takes a 20 minute car journey to get there from the DeLaSea. We stayed in the off season, but the hotel and surrounding town was completely desolate. Not a soul to be seen in the hotel during the entirety of our three night stay. This left an eery feeling in such a large hotel, and at breakfast meant we felt like we were being watched by staff. On the subject of breakfast, what at first appears to be an impressive and huge array of options is actually very underwhelming. There is an entire station dedicated to waffles and pancakes, yet it was unmanned by staff. A plate of earlier cooked items were presented on a plate but were of course stone cold. For the price you pay, we were very disappointed. Front desk staff were polite and helpful, but serving staff were at times quite frosty and lacked the smile and attentiveness we had experienced in other hotels around Vietnam.
