Privately-owned, the family and its experienced staff invite guests to savour the warm hospitality and superb locally sourced food, cooked and presented in the AA Rosette-awarded restaurant. The restaurant has direct access to the gardens, where drinks and canapes can be enjoyed on a warm summer's evening. In winter, enjoy the comfort and warmth of log fires in the cosy lounge or bar. Each of the 12 en suite rooms is tastefully decorated and has all the facilities one would expect of a delightful country house hotel.

    Lovely building and grounds
    Good location for our requirements. Lovely building. Breakfast was not included but that was fine as we didn't want full breakfasts. We had a nice dinner there on our first night. Milk and water in the fridge on the landing is an excellent idea.
    We booked a twin, but the bed was made up as a large double. If the room is sold as a twin, I would expect twin beds. We didn't make an issue of it, as we were tired and did not want the disruption of having to wait for the bed to be separated and re-made on the first night. However, it would have been good to have the bed set up as requested, as we sleep better when we don't have to share a duvet!!

    Food good, interesting building. Lack of ambience and bonhomie means that we would look elsewhere
    Booked for an overnight stay on the way to the west country. Had dinner then breakfast the following day. Food was very good. The room had a recently fitted new carpet which added to the comfort. The window is single glazed and so suffered from excess condensation in the morning when the heating came on. The room was cold when we first arrived (3pm) but did eventually warm up. The restaurant staff were very pleasant. The owner was not very friendly when we tried to have a conversation with him. Perhaps he was having a bad day?
    The area in the bar has a wood burner and so has the potential to be a nice area to sit in. The bar area only has two wooden tables each with two wooden chairs. If these had been substituted for some easy chairs and/or sofa, this would have been so much better and more comfortable. We might have been encouraged to linger a while and have another drink from the bar.

    Nice ambience and flexible hosts.
    The bar area needs comfy leather sofas and armchairs. Very limited area to sit comfortably and have a drink. They have dining tables with wooden chairs in areas where there is log burners. Such a waste of space.. one area should have a proper set up for comfy sofas and chairs - pretty please. Only thing putting us coming more frequently or arranging to meet friends there for the weekend. No proper place to socialise.

    Perfect quiet stay on our journey to Cornwall.
    Dinner bed and breakfast on our way to Cornwall. Relieved that are a dog friendly hotel as it was below zero centigrade last night and the dogs will have had to stay in the car. The chef is excellent and provides interesting food.

    This is always our overnight stay en route to the West Country
    The location is great for us - not far off the A303 but in the countryside and easy to walk our dogs without them getting filthy. The hotel itself is comfortably country - beds and sofas are very comfortable, bathrooms warm and well appointed, and the food is excellent.
    There is no shampoo or conditioner provided and I did not find a hairdryer
