The Broughton is dated but clean and the staff excellent.
Compliments especially to the cleaning staff who seem to be keeping dated facilities up to scratch as best they can.
Everything was extremely clean in my room (10) which I was grateful for. Very comfortable bed and lovely soft towels. The bathroom was old but again clean. Black mould stains everywhere on the grouting above the bath but as a maintenance professional myself I appreciate these were unsightly stains left by mould not mould itself. The appearance could be easily improved with a grout pen though at little to no cost.
The hot water tap again so old it was hard to turn off, probably washers need changing. And the fan was so noisy I sat on the toilet in the dark several times. However, considering the price of the rooms these are observations not so much complaints.
Room wise it was a very comfortable experience given the price. The only thing you really need to get sorted quickly and properly is the signal to the tv. Apparently its an ongoing problem, the signal is so week on every channel that all you get is a strobing pixelated image. It was virtually unwatchable with fragmented sound to go with the fragmented pictures. I checked the connections to the aerial cable myself but it made no difference. You need to get someone in who really knows what they are doing to fix this because having a TV in your room is an integral part of the enjoyment in 2023/4.
Dinner and breakfast was good and up to the usual high standard for its league that we have come to expect from the Hungry Horse.
Not easy for the staff running a hotel and restaurant over Christmas so again, full compliments to them.
