Unfortunately, our experience with the house rental in Santa Monica was extremely disappointing. We regret not thoroughly considering the previous reviews before making our decision.
Initially, upon entering the building, things appeared acceptable, although not as nice, modern, and clean as depicted in the pictures. However, we soon discovered numerous unpleasant issues that made our stay unbearable.
First and foremost, the cleanliness of the apartment was highly unsatisfactory. The kitchen and bathroom had clearly not been cleaned adequately in quite some time, with sticky surfaces and even moldy food found in the oven and refrigerator.
Furthermore, the pool had not been maintained at all. We encountered personal items left behind by previous tenants and noticed spider webs and other debris on the patio area.
In addition, there was a concerning presence of dark mold around the kitchen sink, which raised serious health concerns.
The doors throughout the apartment were difficult to open, and the restroom door failed to close completely due to an uneven floor.
To our astonishment, we discovered that all the fire detectors had been deliberately removed. The property manager's explanation that some people didn't want them due to false alarms was both concerning and unsafe.
Another major safety hazard was the faulty heavy grid on the fireplace, which was not securely fixed. Thankfully, our 2-year-old child did not come into contact with it.
Initially, we attempted to address these issues by contacting the property manager, hoping for proper cleaning and a potential discount. However, when the manager responded with a mere offer of $200 and no further refund, we realized that this was not an isolated incident. The final straw came when our child discovered a dead rat near the pool, prompting us to leave the premises immediately.
