The hotel, according to the reception, was opened in February 2023 and is modern and tastefully decorated with high-quality wooden furniture from Sri Lanka. The small pool is certainly suitable for children to cool off in good weather, although we didn't use it in December due to a lot of rain.
The room is equipped with a large, very comfortable bed. Chairs and a table are available on the balcony. It takes several minutes for warm water to come out of the shower, but the bathroom is high-quality and tastefully modern furnished.
Occasionally, there was a bad smell from the toilet drain, possibly due to the heavy rain. The hotel is relatively quiet, situated on a hill with a magnificent view of the lake and the old town. It's reachable by a steep footpath next to the Prince of Wales Park in about 15 minutes on foot. The road is partly busy and not entirely suitable for walking, so caution is advised. For transportation by tuk-tuk from Queens Hotel to the hotel, expect to pay between 300-600 Rs., depending on weather, traffic, and negotiation skills.
The restaurant mainly caters to Western tastes with comparatively moderate prices (we spent 4000 Rs. per lunch/dinner for 2). The few Sri Lankan dishes were delicious, although the taste varied daily, possibly depending on the chef in charge or their mood, as some days Daal and Biriyani were unfortunately oversalted.
The Biriyani for lunch and at our day of arrival and the Daal for breakfast after the first night was outstanding but the taste was never reached again.
