It includes masked participants who fill the city streets with parades of drummers, flautists, and brass bands known as Guggenmusik.

Zurich's vibrant spring festival, Sechseläuten, takes place annually on the third Monday of April. The festival's unusual name originates from the medieval custom of ringing the Grossmünster bell at six o'clock each evening, a practice that marked the end of the workday during the summer semester and signaled the arrival of springtime. A key feature of Sechseläuten is the grand parade of Zurich's guilds, with members dressed in historical costumes representing various trades, accompanied by marching bands and children also adorned in traditional attire. This symbolic act is believed to forecast the weather for the coming summer; a swift burning of the Böögg (giant snowman) is hoped for, as it is said to predict a warm and sunny season.
