Why Did It Shut Down?
The Golden Chariot which completed its decade long run in 2018 had to shut down its operations temporarily due to lack of funds. Also, the luxurious train incurred a loss of INR 41 Crores.Nonetheless, the IRCTC came to rescue of the train and agreed to lend its support. SS Jagannathan, the General Manager of IRCTC, South Zone, said that the operation and revival of the train are included as part of a 10-year agreement with the Karnataka Government.
Highlights and Refurbishment of the Train
With help from IRCTC, the train's interiors as well as exteriors have been refurbished, and the train has donned a new look with all the modern amenities. According to the latest reports, the Golden Chariot's package 'Pride of Karnataka' will travel along Bangalore to Mysuru, Chikmagalur, Hampi and Goa.This tour aims at gaining larger tourists at reduced costs. The same journey will be made on March 29, 2020, and April 12, 2020. To attract the tourists and make it available to many, the management has come up with 50% booking discount if travelling along with a companion.
