To travel between Navi Mumbai and Gateway of India, Maharashtra Maritime Board (MMB) may soon open the commute option of speedboats. You'll be able to avail the speed boat to any of the connecting locations soon! This will cut down travel time from Navi to South Mumbai to around 30 minutes.
Maharashtra Maritime Board has been working on the plan. It has also extended a plea to Mumbai Port Trust (MbPT) asking for space to anchor boats on the location. A senior official said that the authorities have written to the authorities at MbPT and have requested for berthing spaces at the Gateway of India.
The success of this plan depends on the acceptance of the request. In response to this development, he also mentioned that private operators have been keen to start service at the Gateway. He said that once permission is granted, many more operators will extend their interest in this plan.
The officials said, "Services will start as soon as all the necessary consents from the MbPT that controls the anchorage at the eastern waterfront and Apollo Bunder are received."
Another proposal that has been hanging with MMB is being revived. The MMB official said, "We are trying to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the MbPT for the jetty."
Mumbai is a coastal state with two major ports the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) and Mumbai Port Trust (MbPT). However, full use has not been made of the potential coastline running over 720 kilometres.
