Origin of Nuad Thai Massage Technique
It is believed that the Nuad Thai massage technique originated in India many centuries ago. It was practised in Thailand for many centuries. Around 1906, a school dedicated to teaching massage techniques to therapists brought the Nuad Thai massage technique into the limelight.As per UNESCO, the Nuad Thai massage practice has its roots in self–care, as during the ancient times, Thai peasants sought help from massage healers in almost every village for treating muscle pain which occurred due to working in the fields.
What is UNESCO’s Cultural Heritage List?
UNESCO’s list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity recognises items that are required to be preserved for future generations. Preservation of such items entails a lot of efforts in safeguarding them. Presently, there are nearly 550 items included in UNESCO’s Cultural Heritage List from over 127 countries.Referring to this development, a Thai delegate at the 'United Nations Economic, Scientific and Cultural Organization Meeting' in Bogota, Colombia said that inclusion of Nuad Thai in UNESCO’s list is historical and this would help promote this practice not just locally, but also internationally.
