Mahazedi Pagoda, Bago Overview

Mahazedi Pagoda is a famous ancient Buddhist temple located in the city of Bago in Myanmar. It houses the sacred tooth relic which is enshrined in gold studded case, which makes it one of the prominent temples for a visit.

The temple was built in 1560 by King Bayinnaung dedicated to this relic. It has a pyramid-style architecture with terraced stairs topped with a square-shaped stupa. The present version was constructed in 1956 after a series of earthquakes destroyed most of the pagoda.
