The oldest artefact in the island, the Stone Pillar or Belanjong pillar close to Pura Belanjong is a 10th-century inscription pillar belonging to the Warmadewa dynasty. It recounts the military victories of the king Sri Kesari Warmadeva and is written in a mix of Old Balinese and Sanskrit, suggesting an ancient cultural exchange.
Although the Stone Pillar was created in the 10th-century, it was only discovered in the early 20th-century. The inscriptions on the stone pillar were written on either sides of the pillar depict the military expeditions of the various kingdoms.
