The French Cathedral of Berlin is located in the heart of Berlin’s public square, Gendarmenmarkt. Contrary to popular belief, this structure is not a cathedral but a tower. It has a twin tower known as the Konzerthaus. The only noteworthy decoration in the church is the extravagant organ with a golden spiked corona.
The French Cathedral also houses the Huguenot Museum which was opened in 1935 and is famous for showcasing the Edict of Potsdam. The lower part of this building is the church, Franzosische Friedrichstadtkirche. This church is simple yet elegant and has beautiful arched ceilings.
There are 284 stairs in the French Cathedral that leads up to the viewing balustrade of the dome which offers a mesmerizing panoramic view of the entire horizon. The church also hosts several church services and concerts. This was initially built during the early 1700s by the French Protestant community, Huguenots. Later, the buildings were destroyed during the Second World War and were again reconstructed and opened in 1987.
