Also Refered As:Bokeo Nature reserve is a national park located near Ban Houayxay village in Bokeo province in Northwest Laos. Being on the banks of the Mekong River, the reserve area is home to precious gems, abundant wildlife and floral life. It was created to protect its population of the black-cheeked gibbon, which are rare species of monkeys unique to this place among many wildlife species. They were thought to be extinct but have been revived. Tourists visiting Laos should travel to Bokeo Nature Reserve to get to know about the extraordinary and enriching ecosystem of Laos.
The nearest town to reach Bokeo Nature reserve is to arrive at Ban Houay Xay town. The town has an airport and there are direct flights from Luang Prabang and Vientiane.
There are many buses and minivans available from cities like Vientiane, Luang Prabang and Vang Vieng. The direct bus from Vientiane takes over 25 hours though. The travel time is more than 10 hours from other cities too and the price is between 20 to 25 USD per person.
You can also get to Houay Xay from Luang Prabang by speedboat or slow boats which take between 6 to 10 hours. There are boats also from Pak Beng and takes less than 6 hours. The price depends on the boat, the number of people and the traveling season and approximately costs about 30 to 60 USD for a one-way trip.
