Tanis, Cairo Overview
Tanis, a day trip from Cairo, is located in the Nile Delta, about 165 kilometres from Egypt's capital. Tourists can visit several temple ruins, including the main temple dedicated to Amun and an important royal necropolis containing the only intact royal pharaonic burial - the tomb of Tutankhamun.
Tanis, also known as San El-Hagar, was featured in the Indiana Jones film Raiders of the Lost Ark.
