Situated within Casablanca’s Oasis Quartier, the Museum of Moroccan Judaism is the only museum in the Arabic-speaking world that is dedicated to Judaism. The exhibits focus on a 2000-year-long history of Jews in Morocco, especially in Casablanca. Some exhibits include the bimah from the Beni-Issakhar Synagogue, a Hanukkah menorah, the preamble of the country’s 2011 Constitution and more.
The Museum of Moroccan Judaism was built at the end of the 20th century and is divided into three exhibition rooms that house documents, jewellery, costumes, ritual objects, tools, etc. There is also a multi-purpose room which consists of photographs, sculptures and paintings depicting Jewish life in the country. In addition, there is a reconstructed jewellery-making workshop here that was made using the workbench and tools of Saul Cohen, a Jewish silversmith. It was previously an orphanage that was home to several young Jews.
