Lera Cave, nestled on Vardia mountain at the eastern end of Stavros, is located approximately 15 kilometers northeast of Chania in Crete. The cave consists of a small church and is known for offering panoramic views of Stavros. The trail is challenging, unmarked and difficult uphill ascent. It takes about 30 to 45 minutes to reach the top.
Hiking to Lera Cave offers a glimpse into both natural beauty and historical intrigue as it was a worship place. The cave is not exploreable as it is dark inside and there are plenty of insects present. On descend one can have views of the sea on one side and cliffs on the other side. The cave is easily spotable as the route is pretty visible.
