The Folklore Museum of Chania is a tiny museum in Old Town, right next to the Catholic Church on Halidon Street. It's a cozy house that's been transformed into a museum, offering a glimpse into the daily life of locals during the 18th and 19th centuries. One of the highlights of the museum is its display of agricultural tools used for tasks like plowing, sowing, and harvesting.
Founded in 1990 by Aspasia Bikaki and Irini Koumandraki, the museum boasts a diverse collection of traditional items gathered from villages across Crete. Different sections include a kitchen, a bridal bedroom, and a traditional living room where betrothal ceremonies were held. Visitors can also explore models of traditional workplaces, such as a cobbler's shop or a tailor's workshop as well. The museum's collection includes various ornaments, musical instruments, and furniture, including a bridal bed and sitting room settee. It also includes woven and embroidered wall hangings, showcasing the intricate craftsmanship of Cretan embroidery.
