Therisos Gorge, Chania Overview

Situated approximately 10 kilometers away from Chania, Therisos gorge trail is a mixed difficulty trail that passes through the gorge and leads to the historic village of Therisos. The gorge spans about 6 kilometers while the whole trail is about 14 kilometers with varying levels of difficulty, making it accessible to hikers of different skill levels.

Popular among both locals and tourists, the hike allows visitors to explore the diverse flora and fauna of the area while enjoying breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. Along the way, hikers can discover hidden caves, spot wildlife, and marvel at the tranquility of the landscape. 

The path is relatively easy to navigate, with occasional narrow passages and rocky terrain adding to the excitement of the journey. Throughout the hike, hikers are treated to glimpses of Crete's rich history, as the gorge holds significance as a refuge for freedom fighters during the Ottoman occupation. The village can also be accessed by car.
