The Windmill de Roos is a very popular tourist attraction and symbolic of the Delft region as well as the Netherlands. Visitors can climb upstairs to the facility on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays to view the entire process and discover the mill from inside.
It was built in 1679 and is the only one standing amongst the fifteen mills that were built to grind corn and is used as a flour mill to this day. The first addressed thought of the existence of such a mill goes back to the 14th century. The mill’s original structure got a bit lopsided due to the poor drainage systems in the 1980s but in 2012 the mill was raised by one metre on supporting steel for a new railway tunnel to be built in Delft and now the cute windmill rests comfortably above a thriving railway tunnel.
Other Important Objective Information : 1. There is also a parking facility available near the windmill.
2. Only under the supervision of a volunteer is any visitor allowed inside the Windmill de Roos.
