Gialos, the old port, is nestled almost 200m below Fira. There are restaurants, small shops, and tavernas at the port. It is not the main port, but some cruises sail off from here. It can be visited for scenic beauty or the views from the cable car.
Also known as Fira Skala, a staircase that connects Gialos to Fira is known for its views of Caldera. You can scale almost 600 of these steps to reach the little port. It takes about 20-25 minutes. It is also accessible by cable car, which leaves every 20 minutes. There is also an option to pay and ride on a donkey back to get down to the port or vice-versa, but it is usually frowned upon by local people and most of the tourists.
