Santorini Old Port, located at the base of Fira’s cliffs, is a historic harbor and a charming waterfront area where traditional fishing boats, cruise tenders, and excursion ferries dock, offering connections to the volcanic islets and nearby attractions. Visitors can reach Gialos via a steep zigzagging path of 587 steps, by cable car, or on mule rides, each providing stunning views of the caldera. It is lined with tavernas, cafés, and souvenir shops.
Also known as Fira Skala, a staircase that connects Gialos to Fira is known for its views of Caldera. You can scale almost 600 of these steps to reach the little port. It takes about 20-25 minutes. It is also accessible by cable car, which leaves every 20 minutes. There is also an option to pay and ride on a donkey back to get down to the port or vice-versa, but it is usually frowned upon by local people and most of the tourists.
