This 50 km long (around 200 metre wide) island lies parallel to the southern shore of long Island at around 60 miles from Central New York. To reach this Island you would have to take a ferry from Bay shore or Sayville. Different ferries have different pickup and drop points. The usual fee is around $19 for a round trip ($9 for kids).
There are tons of things to do on Fire Island. The Robert Moses state park and fire Island lighthouse are the top attractions among visitors. Ocean beach, located in the middle of the 50km shoreline has multiple restaurants, bars and hotels for the visitors to stay & enjoy. The island offers everything ranging from dense forests to sandy beaches. The Robert Moses State Park is a 100 year old, 350 hectare state park with around 10 km of shoreline for swimming and surfing. It has fishing areas, golf courses and special picnic spots for families to enjoy. Adjacent to the state park, the 168 feet tall lighthouse has historic importance. The island also has 50 acres of "sunken forest". "Sand castle on the ocean", "Surf's Out" restaurants and "CJ's cafe" are a must try. "Sailor's Heaven" and "Smith POint county park" should not be missed.
