Saint Michael's Bridge is a prominent stone arch bridge, connecting the Graslei and Korenlei quays over the Leie River. It offers panoramic views of Ghent's medieval architecture, including the iconic trio of towers: Saint Nicholas' Church, the Belfry of Ghent, and Saint Bavo's Cathedral. The bridge is particularly enchanting during twilight when the surrounding historic buildings are illuminated, offering a fairy-tale view of the city.
Originally, a flat swing bridge occupied this site, facilitating river traffic. In the early 20th century, it was replaced by the current stone arch bridge to enhance the city's infrastructure and aesthetics. A notable feature is the central lantern adorned with a bronze statue of Saint Michael, the city's patron saint, symbolically watching over Ghent.
