Located in the heart of the city of Guwahati, opposite to Cotton College in Panbazar area of Guwahati, Nehru Park is a charming garden park built in 2000 and named after the first Prime Minister of India- Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. Based in the age old institutional area of Guwahati with plenty of colleges in the vicinity, the park area was originally a church with several cemeteries. Later, the Assam government overtook it and decided otherwise. Currently, one of the major tourist attractions of the city, the park has been beautified with several trees, soft grass and spectacular sculptures.
Blessed with a pristine environment and a pleasant atmosphere, Nehru Park boasts of 45 sculptures carved out of concrete depicting various dance forms of the state of Assam. Besides, it has an open air theatre, a rock garden, a charming lawn and a few artificial ponds. The park is thronged by tourists day in and day out owing to its well- maintained lawns, vibrantly blooming flowers and an all- around vitality.
