Hallstatt Museum, Hallstatt Overview

Situated near the shores of Lake Hallstatt, the Hallstatt Museum offers visitors an immersive journey through 7,000 years of the region's history, from the Stone Age to the present day. It is renowned for its extensive collection of artifacts from the local salt mines and the Iron Age cemeteries, which have significantly contributed to the understanding of the Hallstatt culture.

Established in 1884, the Hallstatt Museum has undergone several transformations, with a significant relocation in 2002 to the former parsonage building. This move allowed for the reunification of its collections with artifacts previously housed in Vienna's Natural History Museum. Exhibits that the museum showcases include, tools, clothing, everyday objects used by ancient miners, exquisite jewelry, weapons, pottery, glassware and brooches.
