Wan Chai Heritage Trail is a walking trail that starts at Mallory Street and ends at Wing Fung Street taking in buildings of historical, cultural and architectural interests. It was formed by Wan Chan Revitalisation Initiatives Special Committee (OWCRISC) on september 27, 2009 to conserve and protect the culture of Wan Chai. At present, the trail features 15 sites and is roughly a 2-hour walk.
The Wan Chai Heritage Trail is divided into two parts- cultural and architectural. Computers have been installed along the route to let the visitors read about the places they visit. The trail is an easy way to experience not only the city’s culture, but also to appreciate its colonial and modern architecture.
Architectural Heritage Trail
Green House: As the name suggests, this is a block of ten tenement houses whose walls are painted in green color located in Mallory street. It is one of the few remaining Tong-Lau of the balcony type in Hong Kong. In 2005, it became the first preservation project of the Urban Renewal Authority. The URA renamed it to 7 Mallory street in 2018.
Pak Tai Temple: The Wan Chai Pak Tai Temple, built in 1783, is located on Lung On Street. Originally named Yuk Hui Kung, the temple was built by the locals and is dedicated to a martial deity Pak Tai. It houses a 10 foot long Pak Tai statue and is decorated with lotus lanterns.
