The National Monument of Indonesia is a massive tower located at Merdeka Square's center. It will take you through the evolution of Indonesia's culture since its pre-historic times, with many artifacts from each era. The historic structure also has an observation deck, the National History Museum, and the Hall of Independence.
The National Monument of Indonesia houses the first red and white flag flown at the Proclamation of Independence in 1945. The monument is 137 m tall and is obelisk shaped. It is topped with a 14.5 m tall bronze flame with a stunning 32 kg gold coating. The outer yard houses reliefs from the Japanese occupation during World War II and the Proclamation of Independence in 1945.
The National Monument of Indonesia has a viewing deck, at a height of 115 m above ground level. The platform can accommodate up to 50 people. The observation deck is open at night as well, although with a limited schedule. The goblet part of the monument is home to the Hall of Independence.
The hall can be reached via spiral stairs. It displays various symbols of Independence. A gold-coated map of the Indonesian archipelago is displayed on the Northern wall of the Hall. The western part displays the original text of the Proclamation of Independence.
The Indonesian National History Museum is located in the hall below the National Monument. It displays a total of 51 dioramas depicting scenes from Indonesian history.
