Desaru Beach, Johor Bahru Overview

Desaru Beach is a picturesque beach located to the east of Johor Bahru. The entire stretch of 25 kilometers is clean and lined by tall casuarinas trees making the area perfect for photo ops. The visitors enjoy a host of usual beach activities such as swimming, boating and fishing in the waters of South China Sea.

Desaru Beach is ideal for spending a quiet and relaxing day for the locals with a car park, barbecue pits and washrooms available for use. There are various small shacks selling snacks and beverages but people hoping to enjoy a good meal have to walk up to the nearest resort that houses some restaurants.

Things to Do at Desaru Beach

Swim- It is not too difficult to swim in the placid waters but not advisable for the novice swimmers to try to go too deep as there may be slops beneath the apparent clear water that may get entagled in the feet.
Snorkel- Snorkeling is an option that few exercise as there are no colorful fish or brilliant corals to view. The water is not deep enough for scuba diving though.
Surf- The wind makes it possible to go surfing with the participants overjoyed at the prospect of skirting the waves and enjoying the experience due to the total lack of jellyfish and sharks infesting the water.
Canoe- There are canoes available on rent for the keen oarsmen to go boating.

Best Time to Visit

The right time to visit Desaru Beach is between April to October when the waves are high and rain is considerably less. However, June to August is thought to be the season when the activities at the beach can be enjoyed to the fullest.

How to Reach Desaru Beach

International tourists tend to hire cars and taxis to reach the beach directly from Senai Airport.
There are buses available from Johor Bahru, Tanjung Belungkor and Kota Tinggi to Desaru as well.
Boat services are also available from Tanjong Belungkor Ferry Terminal in Belungkor, Johor although car ferries have been discontinued.
Single visitors refer to rent motorcycles from Aeon Tebrau to the Desaru public beach.
