The town of Kefalos Is situated on the island of Kos, 43 kilometers from the main town of Kos. Built on a stone height, Kefalos is dominated by the windmill of Palavasilis. The holiday resort of Kefalos enjoys a laid-back atmosphere, and visitors can expect a charming and traditional Greek experience in this coastal wonder.

Kefalos is divided into two parts. The main town is perched on top of a ridge, surrounded by the ruins of old fortifications of the Kefalos castle. The lower part, Kamari, represents a classic Greek maritime region with harbours, a marina and numerous boats. The Kamari region is home to a pebbled beach and the Early Christian Basilica of Agios Stephanos, facing the islet of Kastri. Lying on a hill slope, the town forms a maze of narrow alleys like any other Greek town. This former capital of Kos houses a Folklore museum, portraying the rural way of life dating back centuries. The ruins of the Christian basilica of Agios Stefanos and the stunning islet opposite the port frame this village.

The crystalline beach of Kefalos attracts several tourists and is an excellent place to sunbathe or go swimming. The clear and warm beaches are an ideal location for water sports enthusiasts; the nearby location of paradise beach is famous for windsurfing and diving. Moreover, several historical sites are located close to the capital of Kos town, Kefalos. Tourists can also book boat tours to the stunning volcanic island of Nisyros and Rhodes. Kefalos is an excellent location for a luxurious holiday; couples on their honeymoon usually prefer spending a weekend on this resort island.

Must Know Before You Travel to Kefalos

  • Since Kefalos is a 40 km ride from Kos, the shuttle bus is the cheapest way to travel to this holiday resort. These buses can be booked on-site or online, costing anywhere between TRY 85-95.
  • Several laid-back bars offer cocktails and live music around the beaches and are open till late. However, the town does not enjoy a vibrant nightlife. 
  • Visitors usually travel to Kardamena or Kos Town for shopping as there are more stores, souks, and boutiques to choose from.
