Kefalos is divided into two parts. The main town is perched on top of a ridge, surrounded by the ruins of old fortifications of the Kefalos castle. The lower part, Kamari, represents a classic Greek maritime region with harbours, a marina and numerous boats. The Kamari region is home to a pebbled beach and the Early Christian Basilica of Agios Stephanos, facing the islet of Kastri. Lying on a hill slope, the town forms a maze of narrow alleys like any other Greek town. This former capital of Kos houses a Folklore museum, portraying the rural way of life dating back centuries. The ruins of the Christian basilica of Agios Stefanos and the stunning islet opposite the port frame this village.
The crystalline beach of Kefalos attracts several tourists and is an excellent place to sunbathe or go swimming.
