Elephant Training Centre

One of the most prominent attractions in Kodanad, Elephant Training Centre has been at its place since before the 1950s. Though capturing Elephants was banned in the 1970s, this place still offers a great experience to the tourists. Here, one can witness bathing and training Elephants.

Viewpoint

Kodanad View Point is one of the major attractions of Kodanad, and for a good reason! The point offers a mesmerizing view of Nilgiri and the mountains. It also allows you to glance over the huts and tea estates. Regular buses move to and fro at this location, making it very accessible. There isn't much to devour around the View Point, other than a cuppa and some light snacks.

History of Kodanad

At the time of 1950s, Kodanad was one of the most prominent places for captured Elephant training. A couple of decades later, capturing Elephants was banned by the government, and the place has been used as rescue training centre ever since. The Elephants are now trained for multiple purposes like safari and transporting items.

Itinerary

Day 1
Reach Kodanad in the early morning, freshen up and have your breakfast. Further, depart for Elephant Training Centre, and reach there by 9:00 AM. Explore the area, witness Elephants taking a shower, and see baby Elephants getting trained. Leave the place at noon, and have an afternoon snack. Reach Abhayaranyam at 1:00 PM and witness numerous animals enjoying among themselves. Explore for 2 hours and leave the place at 3:00 PM. Further, have your lunch and go back to your stay. Spend the rest of your day in relaxation.

Day 2
After a good night's sleep, wake up as you please, freshen up, have your breakfast, and get ready for a day to be spent in the lap of nature. At noon, depart for Paniyeli Poru, one of the most peaceful and beautiful places there is! A soothing waterfall and the Periyar River flowing through rocks is a beautiful sight. Spend the day in touch with nature, and head back to your stay when you are done adoring the beauty of the place. Sleep in peace for the journey home the next day.
