The Whirling Dervish Ceremony, also known as the Sema ceremony, is a ritual performance held at the Mevlana Cultural Center in Konya, Turkey. The ceremony involves the whirling of the dervishes, who wear long white robes and tall conical hats, as they recite prayers and meditate on the divine. The ceremony is a spiritual and cultural tradition associated with Rumi and the Mevlevi Order and is considered a powerful expression of devotion and unity.
The Mevlana Cultural Center hosts regular Sema ceremonies for visitors, for which tickets are purchased in advance. Following the teachings of the 13th-century Sufi mystic and poet Jalal ad-Din Muhammad Rumi, also called Mevlana and Rumi, this ceremony was performed by the members of the Mevlevi Order of Sufism, also known as the "Whirling Dervishes,".
