Taman Negara, Kuantan Overview
Around 130 million years old, the Taman Negara rainforest in Malaysia boasts of being the oldest one on the entire planet, and this exotic location is the site for the Taman Negara National Park. Climb the Teresk Hill: There are two trails that leads to the 334-meter high hill. The boardwalk route along the east of the river is relatively easy to walk on, while the route to the west is somewhat tougher, and leads through muddy paths full of leeches. Those who are lucky enough are also able to spot a variety of wildlife while on the way up.
Enjoy a canopy walk on the Bukit Teresek: At a height of 530 meters, the suspension bridge in Malaysia is the longest in the world. The staff there is well trained to ensure that visitors walk safely on the bridge while they enjoy the sights of the flora and fauna en route.
Jungle trekking: Taman Negara offers treks of various lengths, which can last up to 9 days; and visitors are free to choose whatever suits them the best according to their previous trekking experience, expertise levels, etc.
Pay a visit to the Orang Asli settlements: The word Orang Asli translates to ‘original people’ in the Malay language, and there a lot of settlements that belong to these people along the trail. Best Time to Visit
The best time to visit the park is between February and September, when it is the ongoing dry season. However, you will find most visitors here between April and August, which happens to be the tourist season.
How to Reach Taman Negara
Bus: Board a bus from Kuala Lumpur and from other major towns and cities in Malaysia, but buses ply only till Jerantut, which is the nearest town to Taman Negara. Jerantut is connected to Taman Negara by jungle buses, which are operated by either of the two operators: Bas Latif or Pahang Lin Siong. However, there are only limited bus rides by these operators, and the journey easily takes over 1.5 hours.
