The city of Latur is the Administrative Headquarters of Latur as a district as well as a taluka. Latur is a part of the Marathwada Region of state of Maharashtra and has great history lessons in each of its attractions. History

Latur has a long gone history that dates back to the Rashtrakuta period. Dantidurga, the first Rashtrakuta King was from Latur which was mentioned in some historical records as Lattalur and Ratnapura. King Amoghavarsha of the Rashtrakutas later developed Latur. The region was ruled by various empires like the Shatavahanas, the Sakas, the Chalukyas, the Yadavas, the Delhi Sultans, the Bahamani Sultans of South India, Adilshahi, the Marathas and the Mughals. Latur was a part of the state of Hyderabad in the 19th Century until 1948 under the Nizams of Hyderabad after which the country got its independence and the region was made a part of the Bombay Province. With the creation of Maharashtra, Latur became a District under the new state.
