The grand 16th century building, Malaga Cathedral stands on the site of an earlier mosque. It is one of those buildings that dominate the Old Town. The twin towered facade, the Cathedral is extravagant from the inside as well as the outside. Visitors are awestruck by the spacious and finely proportioned interiors, which is decorated intrinsically. The third chapel in the South aisle, Capilla del Rosario, has a beautiful painting of the Virgin with Saints, painted by Alonso Cano. There are kneeling figures of the Catholic Monarchs by Pedro de Mena in the Capilla de los Reyes. There are 40 wooden carved statues of the saints, sculpted by Jose Micael and Pedro de Mena. There is a 86 meter high North Tower that provides beautiful panoramic views. It was built by the Catholic kings in the early 16th century. It's construction began in 1528,
