The Unicaja Museum of Popular Arts and Costumes, is located in Plaza del Abispo in the historic centre and comprises two sections; Fine Arts and Archaeology. It focuses on the conservation and restoration of ethnographic heritage.
The first collection was placed at the Economic Society of Friends of the Country in Montepío de Viñeros's old building in Plaza de la Constitución. This was in a room provided by the Economic Society. In addition to the museum construction, the museum's structure is an example of the type of construction found in Lower Andalusia, featuring two-story houses with patios that provide access to the rooms within—a characteristic of the town of Malaga, according to Moreno Villa. It combines the traits of Egyptian and Islamic tradition on the one hand and Mediterranean elements on the other hand. You can see this reflected in the whitewashed walls, the lighting, the central place that occupies the centre, the light from the columns of the Islamic tradition, and the slender semicircular arches of the lower gallery.
