Fort St. Elmo, Malta Overview

Fort St. Elmo is a star-shaped fortress located at the tip of the Valletta peninsula in Malta, overlooking the Grand Harbour and Marsamxett Harbour. Built in 1552, it played a pivotal role during the Great Siege of Malta and now houses the National War Museum, showcasing Malta’s military history. The most noteworthy artifacts include the military armor of the Order of St John and the Ottoman Turks, Roosevelt’s Jeep-Husky, the Gloster Sea Gladiator N5520 FAITH, and Malta’s Gallantry award - the George Cross. The museum duly preserves the military history & heritage of Malta through artifacts & exhibits. Fort St Elmo was originally a war machine constructed in a critical location to confront and hold back the forbidding Ottoman attacks.
