Grand Gaube Beach

Located in the village of Grand Gaube in the northeastern part of Mauritius, the Grand Gaube Beach is one of the many beaches situated in the Riviere du Rempart district along its neighbors Pereybere, Mont Choisy and Trou aux Biches. However, it isn't as popular as them because of the minimal development of this part of the island and also because its rocky and rustic terrain, pretty unconventional for a beach, that isn't purely ideal for water sports and swimming as well.

There is a very limited area covered by the sand strips of the beach and the seabed has an abundance of corals. From the looks of it, you'll understand at once that the Grand Gaube is a rather deserted beach; during some weekends some local families come to the beach and spend their time. The only attraction in the entire landscape is the Lux Grand Gaube, which is a luxury hotel where you'll find a beautiful small sheltered bay that has been carefully maintained by the Lux group of Mauritius.

The Ministry of Tourism of Mauritius has made tremendous effort towards cleaning the beach, building sanitary facilities and restrooms, a children’s playground, number of benches and has taken steps the amplify the beauty of the beach but yet, the Grand Gaube beach has failed to gain popularity among the people. From a touristic perspective, the beach has nothing significant to offer and fall behind than the other famous beaches in the north that are famous for its beauty.

However, in spite of not being famous, you can still enjoy and breath the fresh air of Grand Gaube beach, get away from the hustle and bustle of the cities and spend some quiet and alone time. There are local snack stalls and a few restaurant within a couple of metres. The whole landscape has immense potential for development and still the infrastructural progress is quite negligible. Public beaches like Butte a l’herbe and Anse La Raie are accessible from Grand Gaube where you can enjoy swimming and kitesurfing.

If you are staying at the Lux Grand Gaube, you can undertake in activities like pedalo, windsurfing, parasailing, Catamaran cruises, scuba diving, deep sea fishing, speed boat trip and kayaking.
