Jonker Street Night Market is a leisurely shopping and culinary experience, offering nearly 500 stalls for food, drinks, local handicraft items, packaged snacks, herbs, spices, tea, coffee, jewelry, clothes, accessories, shoes, and chocolates. Held on Jalan Hang Jebat Street right over the bridge from the Dutch Square, the market is marked with a giant, ornately decorated red gate.
Jonker Street Night Market is a melting pot of sellers where you can pick up various souvenirs and taste local Malay cuisine. If you are an anime fanatic or Studio Ghibli lover, you will find tons of merchandise to pick from. Try coconut dollops, veggie rolls, mango smoothies, dim sum, dragon’s beard candy, long potato, papaya salads, durian puffs, quail eggs BBQ, shell oysters, chang fen rice noodles, laksa, and authentic Nyonya Laksa and Nyonya Cendol - a must-try dessert made of grated coconut and red bean. However, almost all the eateries here are stalls with minimal seating.
You can also enjoy live performances, ride the brightly-lit three-wheeler rickshaws, and watch ‘Coconut Warriors’ put up a juggling show from time to time. Do visit the antique shops selling artworks and artifacts. If you are into inks, there are temporary tattoo shops that will get you a design to flaunt for the duration of the trip and then some.
