Freedom Tower is used as a place for contemporary art museum. In 1979, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places and was designated a U.S. National Historic Landmark in 2008.
Apart from being used as a Cuban American museum, the tower is also a cultural center, and an educational center. The tower was originally used as headquarters of The Miami News, an english newspaper. Later, when Fiedal Castro came into power in Cuba, it was used as immigration station for refugees from Cuba.æ
