Punarjani Traditional Village, Munnar Overview

Nestled 8 km away from Munnar, Punarjani Traditional Village is a performing arts theatre where you can watch live performances of two traditional art forms of Kerala, namely Kathakali - the classical dance form, and Kalaripayattu - one of the earliest-born & deadliest martial arts in India. It is an eccentric & reposeful tourist attraction in Munnar.

Notably, the word Punarjani means rebirth, and this traditional village is intended to revitalize the long-aged traditions of Kerala. The first show is the Kathakali performance depicting a stunning fusion of dance and drama. In the second show at Punarjani Traditional Village, Kalaripayattu, the traditional martial art of Kerala, is performed. Both these authentic performances are memorable experiences to watch. This village is an idyllic spot for art & culture admirers. It lets the visitors behold the cultural beliefs & heritage of the state by way of engrossing performances. Although visitors come to this cultural village for the fascinating Kathakali dance and Kalaripayattu moves, it also offers various Ayurvedic massage & calming therapy sessions.

Must Know Before You Visit Punarjani Traditional Village

Note :

  1. The Ticket rates vary depending on the seating selected. There are three types of seats available for each show - Premium seats, balcony seats, & Executive seats. Prior seat booking is recommended to avoid any inconvenience due to the rush.
  2. The shows run for 2 hours in the evening daily, but visitors should spare 3-4 hours for their visit to Punarjani Traditional Village. 
  3. Those who want to see the traditional Kathakali make-up & preparation session should arrive early at around 4:00 PM.
  4. In winter, the weather can get chilly during the evenings, so take sweaters and scarves with you.
  5. Children under five years are provided complimentary tickets, but no separate seats are allotted to them. 
  6. Front seatings offer a better view. However, families with kids are advised to take seats at the back to avoid causing a nuisance to the other audiences.
  7. Also, visitors with toddlers should not take seats in the extreme front area, as toddlers can get bothered due to loud sounds.
  8. Carry your cameras, as visitors are welcome to take photographs with the artists and their weapons after the show.
