Coney Island is the quintessential ‘Classic American’ beach located in Brooklyn and rightly finds itself near the top of the list of New York’s best beaches.
Every summer, its 3 sandy miles are thronged by locals and tourists alike, coming for the myriad activities and entertainment it provides as well as to enjoy the sun and sand.
The official season starts in late May and ends in September on Labour day. In addition to the beach, Coney Island’s famous amusement park draws thousands of visitors everyday. In recent years, it has become famous for its authentic Russian cuisine as well as vintage restaurant chains including Childs Restaurant which is one of America’s first chain eateries. During these months, there is a fireworks show at 9 PM every Friday night which makes for a perfect end to a beach day.
Even in winters, Coney Island is a popular destination as it houses the New York Aquarium, The Abe Stark ice skating rink as well as the Brooklyn Cyclones minor league baseball stadium
