Located in Upper Manhattan, El Museo del Barrio, commonly known as El Museo was founded in 1969. It features Caribbean and Latin American art forms with emphasis on Puerto Rican works, especially from the community of New York.
It is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 12 noon till 5 PM. The ticket costs USD 9 for adults, USD 5 for seniors and students and free for kids below 12 years old. From film to literature, cultural celebrations to performing arts and educational programs for all age-groups, El Museo stands as a reputed Latino cultural center. Over 8000 permanent collections include over 400 contemporary and modern paintings, over 700 photographs, mixed-media, 3D and time-based art forms representing post war. More than 400 Puerto Rican, Chicano, Mexican and Nuyorican graphics works from the 20th and 21st centuries are on display. Sourced from Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, the Pre-Columbian and pan-Caribbean contemporary works, fine photographs and graphics represent popular traditions.
