Tucked in the Upper New York Bay, the Ellis Island National Museum of Immigration on Ellis Island is the living monument telling the tales of immigrant Americans inside the restored Renaissance Revival building. Once the main building of the immigration complex, the museum is now accessible along with the Statue OF Liberty Monument on ferry from New Jersey and Lower Manhattan.
Opened on 10th September 1990, it chronicles the immigration history of America from the 1500s till date, before and after the Ellis Era while highlighting the immigration process and honoring the contradictions and complexities of a migrant journey. The first floor has theatres, main lobby, baggage room, Peopling of America, New Eras of Immigration and Family Immigration History Center where you can rummage through immigration records to know about the ancestors’ experiences. Check out the hearing room, registry room, theatres, Peak Immigration Years and Through America’s Gate on the second floor. Rotating exhibits, library, reading room, oral history center, dormitory, Silent Voices, Ellis Island Chronicles, Treasures from Home and Restoring a Landmark are on the third floor. Ground floor has a gift shop, audio tour booth and bookstore.
Entry Fee : USD 9 for kids aged 4-12, USD 19.25 for adults above 13, USD 14 for seniors above 62 and free for kids below 4
Timing : Monday through Saturday from 8:30 AM till 5:30 PM and 24x7 on Sunday
