Known popularly as a restaurant with connection to George Washington during the American Revolution and one of the oldest American bars with a great selection of Whiskey, Fraunces Tavern is located in Lower Manhattan. Sandwiched between Broad Street, Pearl Street, Water Street and Coenties Slip, this museum and restaurant in the Financial District is listed on the U.S National Register of Historic Places. With an emphasis on Samuel Fraunces and the Sons of the Revolution in the state of New York, the museum holds regular exhibitions, digital exhibits and around 400 objects for display from its 8000-piece collection.
Representing the history and culture of the colonial era, Early Republic and Revolutionary War, the four segments namely furnishings, personal artifacts, art and communication documents hold objects such as letters, paintings, teacups, tables etc in nine galleries. Open from 12 noon till 5 PM from Wednesday through Sunday, admission costs USD 7 for adults, USD 4 for seniors above 65, students and federally disabled with attendants with valid ID and kids aged between six and seventeen, while free for active military with ID and kids below five. Group tours, school programs, evening lectures, walking tours, Flag Day parade and open house, book club and Washington’s Farewell Celebration are organized here. Research access is offered on Monday Tuesday and Friday from 10 AM till 12 noon and 1 PM to 5 PM.
