Open from 9 AM till sunset, Socrates Sculpture Park in Long Island offers free admission to visitors throughout the year for ongoing exhibitions and events.
Sprawling over five acres by the East Riverfront, the park has manicured lawns, decorative plants as edging, trees on the southwestern edge and herb beds. You can join horticulture practices to learn about landscaping and more than ninety varieties of plants including weeping willows, birch, roses and daffodils. Guided and self-guided tours are available to help you contextualize the thoughts behind each sculpture or artwork. The multifaceted and empowering art education programs like sculpture camps and Saturday sculpture workshops are tailored for kids and families. Teens can enjoy at the sculpture studio learning about contemporary media, visual literacy and art concepts. Overlooking the Hallets Cove Beach, the park also offers various summer camp and day-long programs like fishing, rowing and science-based activities to learn about protecting the waterways. There is a raised cobblestone performance stage where annual programs take place in April-August.
