Chulanur Peafowl Sanctuary, located in the Palakkad district of Kerala, is a unique and specialized wildlife sanctuary dedicated to the conservation and protection of the Indian Peafowl (Pavo cristatus), India’s national bird. Spread over an area of about 3.42 square kilometers, this sanctuary offers a rich habitat for peafowls and other bird species, making it a haven for birdwatchers and nature lovers. The sanctuary is managed by the Kerala Forest and Wildlife Department and is one of the few places in the country where peafowl populations are actively conserved.
Chulanur Peafowl Sanctuary, located in dry deciduous forests and scrubland, provides an ideal habitat for peafowls, playing a key role in their conservation. The sanctuary also supports various wildlife, including small mammals, reptiles, and birds. It protects the peafowls' natural environment, allowing them to thrive and display their striking courtship behaviors, such as the male peacock's fan-like tail feather display.
